Laguna Beach Couple Maternity Photoshoot at Shaw's Cove

Oh my goodness, I can't tell you how much I loved photographing Alexa and Bannock's beach couple maternity photoshoot at Shaw's Cove in Laguna Beach! These two are just the sweetest, and getting to capture their journey from engagement to wedding, and now to becoming parents, has been such an honor. It's seriously the best feeling when couples trust me with their most important moments!

They wanted something super laid-back and easy, just some photos as "proof of mom and dad" before their little one arrives. I immediately thought of Shaw's Cove. It's one of my favorite spots in Laguna Beach because it offers those stunning views without the crazy crowds. Plus, it's easy to get to, which was perfect for Lexi.

We kept things simple and just enjoyed the evening together. No elaborate setups or stiff poses, just the two of them laughing, cuddling, and soaking up that gorgeous sunset. Bannock was cracking jokes left and right, making Lexi laugh the whole time. Their chemistry is off the charts, and it made my job so much fun!

Why Shaw's Cove for Your Beach Couple Maternity Photoshoot?

If you're in Laguna Beach and thinking about a beach couple maternity photoshoot, I can't recommend Shaw's Cove enough. It's got everything you want: beautiful cliffs, soft sand, and the most amazing golden hour light. Plus, it's not as crowded as some of the other beaches, so you get a more intimate setting!

The best part? It's super accessible. The parking is close by, and there's a gentle path down to the beach. We didn't have to worry about Lexi navigating any tricky terrain, which was a big plus!

Other Beaches in Orange County for Your Maternity Photoshoot

If Shaw's Cove isn't quite your vibe, don't worry—Orange County is packed with stunning beaches perfect for a beach couple maternity photoshoot. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Crystal Cove State Park: With its rustic cottages and miles of sandy beaches, Crystal Cove offers a mix of natural beauty and historic charm. The tide pools and cliffs make for incredible backdrops.

  • Victoria Beach: Famous for its "Pirate Tower," this beach has a unique and whimsical feel. The rocky coastline and secluded spots are perfect for a more intimate shoot.

  • Laguna Main Beach: Located in the heart of Laguna Beach, it's easily accessible and offers iconic views, including the boardwalk and lifeguard towers.

  • Thousand Steps Beach: Despite the name, it's actually around 200 steps, but the effort is worth it! This beach features caves and tide pools, making for adventurous and unique photos.

  • Corona Del Mar State Beach: With its wide sandy areas and beautiful rock jetty, it's a popular spot for maternity photos. The sunsets here are absolutely stunning!

  • Huntington Beach Pier: If you're looking for a more lively atmosphere, the pier area provides a vibrant backdrop with plenty of energy. The combination of beach and urban vibes makes for dynamic photos.

Tips for Planning Your Own Beach Maternity Photoshoot

Thinking about doing your own maternity shoot at the beach? Here are some tips to make it a breeze:

1. Choose a Comfortable Location

  • Easy Access: Pick a beach that's easy to get to. Trust me, the last thing you want is a long hike while pregnant!

  • Less Crowded: Opt for a spot that's less busy so you can relax and feel comfortable.

2. Timing Is Everything

  • Golden Hour: Aim for the hour before sunset. The light is soft and flattering—perfect for photos.

  • Weekday Sessions: If you can, schedule your shoot on a weekday to avoid weekend crowds.

3. Dress for Comfort and Style

  • Flowy Dresses: They look amazing in the breeze and are super comfy.

  • Neutral Colors: Soft tones complement the beach scenery beautifully.

4. Keep It Simple

  • Props or No Props: It's totally up to you! Alexa and Bannock chose to keep it simple, focusing on their connection.

  • Be Yourselves: The best photos happen when you're just being you.

5. Trust Your Photographer

  • Relax and Enjoy: Let me handle the details! I'll guide you through poses and make sure the lighting is perfect.
